GAME: FRONT MISSION
COMAPNY: SQUARESOFT (1997)
SYSTEM: SONY PLAYSTATION
in the Front Mission series of games, Front Mission Alternative is as the
title suggests, an Alternative version of the Front Mission series. Rather
than a turn-based stragety like the other Front Mission games, Alternative
is real-time. With ultra-dramatic lighting and a less than serious attitude,
Front Mission Alternative is a nice addition to the Front Mission line.
Mission Alternative takes place in Africa, 2034. The local governments
are being terrorized by groups of guerilla warriors. You'll need to use
your WAWs to wipe out these terrorist organizations. But well-planned
strategies will be integral to your success.
In Front Mission
Alternative you have complete control over the weapons and shields of your
individual WAWs. Using the money earned by successfully completing missions
you can customize your WaWs with a wide variety of weapons and shields
and "Bolt-on" items.
Alternative is played on a large highly detailed map. You set your platoons
(3 WAWs to a platoon) on a course to attack enemy platoons. Timing and
attack direction is vital to the success of missions. Although you are
always outnumbered, the AI of your computer opponent is rather limited
and you can usually out-maneuver the computer with careful planning.
PANZERS, VANZERS, OR WANZERS....AND
NOW WAWs.....WHICH ONES??!!
In Front Mission
and Front Mission: Gunhazard the mechs are called Panzers and Vanzers.
In Front Mission 2 they are mainly called Wanzers. In Front Mission Alternative
they are now known as WAWs (Walking Armored Wanzers). For the sake of clarity,
I will refer to them as WAWs here.
